Giđđa - spring (april - may)

Giđđa means spring in northern Sami. As the weather warms up, the snow melts. The reindeers now instinctively know it’s time to start moving toward the coast or towards warmer parts of the districts. The spring migration is a critical period for the reindeer, especially for the cows, as they need plenty of nutrients in order to produce enough milk for the calves. Owners also need to avoid overstressing the herd, as this stress affects colostrum production which is absolutely essential for giving the calves the best possible start in life.
